Jon Stevens and Kate Ceberano have revealed they are hitting the road together to perform all the hits from the musical masterpiece Jesus Christ Superstar.
The news of the ‘Superstars Live’ tour comes after it was announced Jesus Christ Superstar is coming back to the stage in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth to celebrate the musical’s 50th anniversary.
Stevens and Ceberano were original cast members of the first Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar in 1992 alongside the likes of John Farnham, Angry Anderson and John Waters.
The duo, who have lined up theatre dates across the country this October and November, will play all the big numbers from the musical, such as ‘Heaven on Their Minds’, ‘The Last Supper’ and ‘Superstar’, along with a special tribute to Farnham.
The ‘Superstar Live’ tour starts in Canberra at the Canberra Theatre on Wednesday, October 16. Stevens and Ceberano then travel to Adelaide for a performance at the Adelaide Festival Centre on Friday, October 18 before playing dates at Sydney Coliseum Theatre in Rooty Hill on Saturday, October 19, Fortitude Music Hall in Brisbane on Sunday, October 20, Perth Concert Hall in Perth on Wednesday, October 23 and GPAC Costa Hall in Geelong on Friday, October 25, before rounding out the month at the Palais Theatre in St. Kilda on Thursday, October 31. The final two shows take place in Tassie during November at Hobart’s Federation Concert Hall on Saturday, November 9 and Launceston’s Princess Theatre on Sunday, November 10.

The idea for the tour came about after Stevens and Ceberano performed a medley of Jesus Christ Superstar hits with Delta Goodrem for her Christmas special last year.
“It was magical, and afterwards, we had so many people – Delta included – tell us we should do more with it,” Stevens said in a statement. “This encouragement, and the fact that it’s the 50th anniversary of Jesus Christ Superstar, created the seeds from which the ‘Superstars Live’ show has grown. We can’t wait to take it on the road.”
Ceberano added, “Jon and I have been great mates for a really long time now and have shared the stage together. But we’ve never done a full show like this one. We’ve always had an awesome reaction to performing the JCS songs together, and with Delta’s encouragement, the time was right for us to take it to the next level and put together a full show.
“We both have so much love for John Farnham and the incredible experience we all shared and all these years later, that remains a cherished memory. We’re excited we can bring that back for those who saw us in the original production and for a whole new generation.”
With the new production of Jesus Christ Superstar not coming to Adelaide, the chance to catch Stevens and Ceberano back on stage together performing songs from the musical makes ‘Superstars Live’ a must-attend.
