13 years on since their last album, WA rockers Jebidah are back with a bang. After teasing fans with singles ‘Gum Up the Bearings’, ‘Rubberman’ and ‘Motivation’, the band dropped their long-awaited sixth record OIKS last Friday.
Not only have they released a new album, but the Kevin Mitchell-led quartet has announced a massive 22-date Australian tour.
And if that’s not enough to get you up off your seat, Magic Dirt is coming along for the ride as the support!
Jebediah began recording OIKS in 2018 but had to stop recording due to the pandemic. They eventually got back in the studio and finished the album in 2022.
Taking to Facebook to announce their upcoming tour, Jebediah had this to say about recording OIKS: “It probably goes without saying that we are proud of this record. We went into the studio and took a chance on the chemistry still being there. If it wasn't, well the worst that could happen was we got to spend a few days together mucking around in the studio. Luckily, things sort of slipped into place.
“Put the four of us in a room together, close the door and something happens. Turns out that when you strip everything else away, the outside world and the last 30 years, what's left is the same stuff that was there when we first started hanging out and making a racket in 1995. A little gang of oiks. No big plans or grand ambitions necessarily. Just the idea that we could turn this into...something. And in the process we would pick up again on the same stories and in-jokes we've been entertaining ourselves with since we were teenagers.”
The mammoth tour will see Jebidah play all their classic hits like ‘Leaving Home’, ‘Harpon’ and ‘Animal’ alongside new tunes ‘Rubberman’ and ‘Gum U the Bearings’.
The inclusion of Magic Dirt is a fantastic bonus for Aussie music fans, with the band also pumped to be part of the tour.
“We are beyond stoked to be heading on the road with old mates Jebediah to help launch their new album OIKS,” the band said in a statement. “This will be the first time we’ve toured together in over 25 years, we’ll be hitting up every state and territory and can’t wait to rock with you!”
