Friday Favourites: The Best New Tracks of the Week 18/09/26

There's so much new music being released in the world these days that it's hard to keep up. Even if you consider yourself a music nerd, it's impossible to listen to the hundreds of new tracks dropping every week. That's why we're here to help.

The crew at The Note are constantly turning up the volume in the office, checking out all the latest tunes from local emerging artists right through to your favourite global superstars.

We want to make sure you stay ahead of the curve, so every Friday we are bringing you our favourite tracks of the week.

This week’s list features new music from Troye Sivan, 2charm, Oscar The Wild, Kate Nash, The Hazys and more.

Troye Sivan – 'Party'

Popstar Troye Sivan's latest dancefloor filler is a hypnotic ode to hedonism that finds the Aussie name checking all the places he wants to party, including the bush, under a bridge and at his house.

The song samples Madonna's massive 2000 hit 'Music' and features collaborations with Luka Kloser, Elvira Anderfjärd, Tove Burman, Leland, Tyde Levi, Rob Feher and Styalz Fuego.

The music video, directed by longtime collaborator Gordon von Steineris, is also lit. Shot at a castle near Berkeley, England, it features Sivan playing a medieval knight who enjoys himself thoroughly after a bloody battle.

Oh yeah, Sir Ian McKellen also provides an intro narration.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – 'Parade of Loons'

It's been almost a decade since we lost Tom Petty, with 2027 marking the 50th anniversary of Petty and his band The Heartbreakers.

To celebrate notching a half-century, the band is releasing Origins 1971-1978, a five-album collection that includes seven previously unreleased songs, including 'Parade of Loons'.

Longtime Petty fans will be familiar with 'Parade of Loons', which has been mistaken for other lost Petty songs and appeared on bootleg recordings over the years, but this is the first time the song has been officially released.

The story goes that while Petty was a big fan of the song, he didn't like the version he and The Heartbreakers recorded back in the '70s, feeling it was too distorted.

Thanks to the magic of modern technology, we can now hear 'Parade of Loons' in all its glory. Enjoy.

2charm – 'making out'

'making out' is the first taste of new music from electronic duo 2charm since the release of their debut album, star scum city.

The track was created with fellow creative Ninajirachi from a chopped-up sample of 2charm's debut single 'boyfriend' that was recorded in a single afternoon.

"'making out' started as a dream about a crush, but it found its way into song when Nina and I got in my home studio on 11/11 last year for a few hours of making music before the Addison Rae concert," 2charm shares. "Like a gift from the star scum gods, 'making out' fell into our laps."

If you like sugary pop (and how can you not?), then you'll be turning 'making out' up to 11 and throwing shapes in your bedroom.

Liminal – 'Glue Gun'

Comprising vocalist and drummer Alako Myles, vocalist and guitarist Oscar Myles, synth player Yuki Zillig and bassist Felix Kesteven, Liminal are an intriguing experimental psych-rock quartet from the Northern Rivers/Bundjalung Country.

Ahead of the release of their new album, Hyper Normal, Liminal have shared the futuristic psych-jazz meditation 'Glue Gun'.

The track is a genre-spanning six-and-a-half-minute trip that takes you on a mind-altering journey through shape-shifting soundscapes.

Kate Nash – 'Spilt Milk'

UK singer-songwriter Kate Nash has had an interesting career. She became a darling of the indie-pop scene with the release of her 2007 debut album Made of Bricks, reinvented herself as a riot grrrl before going the independent route.

During that time, she's championed musicians' rights, joined OnlyFans to fund her career and never been afraid to speak her mind.

As she approaches the release of her sixth full-length album, Nash has shared new single 'Spilt Milk', a dynamic, pulsating indietonric call to arms that's quite different to the previously released Irish-inspired single 'Famine'.

It's probably not everyone's cup of tea, but we are big fans of Nash and dig this track. We can't wait to hear her next album.

The Hazys – 'Put Down'

Adelaide indie outfit The Hazys have just released their new EP, Guessing Game.

It's a ripping six-track collection of songs headlined by the rollicking 'Put Down', which the band released as the EP's final single.

Asher Hammat and Dan Heath's harmonies will give you goosebumps, and paired with the groovy guitar work, The Hazys deliver another barnburner.

beabadoobee – 'Write Me a Letter'

Today marks the release of beabadoobee's fourth album Pylon. The record finds the Filipino-British singer-songwriter continuing to push musical boundaries across 14 tracks dealing with love, anger, isolation and depression.

Focus track 'Write My a Letter' is an indie rock pearler featuring production work from Beatrice Laus' longtime collaborators and labelmates Matty Healy and George Daniel of The 1975. 

The song is about, says Laus, "seeing my fault in situations, but also admitting things that I would be too embarrassed to say out loud."

The Datsuns – 'Run From The Sun'

After touring Australia earlier this year, Kiwi outfit The Datsuns have been preparing for the release of their new album, Moonstruck Man.

Following the release of the title track, the rock 'n' rollers return with 'Run From The Sun', a ' 70s-drenched freight train of giant riffs and psychedelic feels with touches of '90s desert rock.

Oscar The Wild – 'Let It Out'

Local favs Oscar The Wild are about to hit the road with Talk Heavy, Great Job! and Bukowski on a tour that sees each band headline their own city and debut a new song for a four-track collab EP.

Oscar The Wild's contribution is 'Let It Out', a droney '90s rocker with a distinctly Aussie twang that adds to the swirling rhythms and fuzzy guitar work.

TEEKS – 'Overdose'

Following the slinky R&B single 'My Boy', acclaimed Māori performer Te Karehana Gardiner-Toi, aka TEEKS, takes things down a notch with the slow-burn 'Overdose'.

This dreamy love song about the pure intoxication that comes with being fully into one person is TEEKS at his lyrical best, with the music video building on the world he's creating with his sophomore record.

Raveena – 'Blissed Out'

This is the first song from Indian-American vocalist Raveena in 2026.

Arriving after the death of her mother, 'Blissed Out' has a soulful R&B feel and finds Raveena channelling her grief through song.

Calling 'Blissed Out' one of her "most vulnerable songs", Raveena is raw, honest and heartfelt; her vocals filling the spaces between the poppy electronic production and swirling strings.

Friendly Fires – 'Magnetic'

Following the release of last month's 'Lose All Your Friends', Friendly Fires are back with 'Magnetic', the lead single from their upcoming new album, Dig Deeper.

'Magnetic' is another shimmering indie electronic-inspired concoction, with the band having this to say about the track: "Attraction is a force so strong it can be beyond our control. What we want and what we should do aren’t always the same. Can you ever take charge over something so powerful?"
