Creative Australia Announces Inaugural AusArt Day

The day encourages Aussies to put their hands in their pockets and donate to show their support for the arts.
Creative Australia has announced the inaugural AusArt Day, a national celebration of the arts.
Artists, venues and art organisations from across the country are coming together for this new national event to encourage people to give back to the Australian arts scene by donating on the day.
Taking place on Thursday 23 October, more than 100 artists and arts organisations have already signed up to take part in the inaugural celebration. Registration is free, with artists and organisations able to sign up here and choose their preferred fundraising platform, with options including the Australian Cultural Fund, which provides for tax deductible donations.
The day will include all manner of events and displays across the country, from coffee cabaret to a performance from a First Nations choir. You can find out more about the day here.
Creative Australia are showing their support for AusArt Day by donating a whopping $500,000 in microgrants.
“It really makes a difference when your community gets behind you. I’ve been involved in arts and Culture my whole working life and can tell you first-hand the support of others matters,” says Creative Australia Chair and AusArt Day Ambassador Professor Wesley Enoch AM.
“AusArt Day is a chance for Australians to show their support by getting behind the musicians, painters, dancers, actors, singers, sculptors, writers and all the creative people who make our country so vibrant and fun to be a part of. Backing people is an Australian tradition. I’m going to donate money on AusArt Day because I know I can make a difference.”
A list of participating artists and arts organisations will be made available on Creative Australia’s website from early October.
