A few months out from the release of Angus & Julia Stone’s sixth studio album, Karaoke Bar, out Friday 4 September via Virgin Music, the Sydney siblings have shared new single ‘Monroe’.
Following the release of the album’s title track, ‘Monroe’ is another deeply emotional song about love, fragility and emotional reciprocity. The track was crafted during a break between tours in the south of France at the legendary Miraval Studios, where the likes of Pink Floyd, The Cure and AC/DC have recorded albums. “It was so wild,” Angus recalls, “to be in that place, surrounded by so much history.”
The duo’s new album continues Angus and Julia’s evolution as songwriters, with Karaoke Bar written and recorded across Greece, France and Australia and inspired by the people and places the duo encountered.
After a series of well-received EPs, Angus & Julia Stone broke through in 2007 with their debut album A Book Like This. The follow-up, Down the Way, hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, earned the band five ARIA Awards and spawned the global hit ‘Big Jet Plane’.
The duo have released a further four albums, including the video game soundtrack Life Is Strange: True Colors, worked with Rick Rubin and performed at some of the most iconic music venues, including London’s Royal Albert Hall, Paris’ L’Olympia and New York’s Town Hall.
