The Adelaide Independent Film Festival (AIFF) returns with a stellar program celebrating short films in two beloved local cinemas – The Capri and Mercury Cinema.
Taking place over two days, on Saturday 11 October and Saturday 18 October, the event features national and international short films from independent filmmakers, giving South Australians the chance to discover a selection of diverse films and filmmakers.
This year’s edition features an Academy Award nominee, an award winner from the 2025 Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Awards and two contenders for the 2026 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards.
The official selection features 25 short films from ten countries, including the South Australian premiere of shorts Dusty, Hearts of Stone, Mia, The Pharmacist and many more.
The SA program includes ten shorts from rising filmmakers, with two made in the City of Unley – Jada Zilm’s two-minute The Crease of This Couch and Dante Niedzwiedz’s M-8.
The judging panel for this year’s AIFF is made up of producer, artist and writer Julianne Pierce, award-winning writer Ruth Estelle, Sydney-based writer/director Milena Bennett and writer and director Anthony Frith.

Not only does the festival feature a wide selection of films screened as part of the official program, but many of the directors and stars of the shorts will be on hand to participate in a selection of Q&As.
After the awards presentation, film lovers can congregate in the foyer of the Capri for a celebratory drink with the filmmakers.
