The debut release for Adelaide supergroup Ponybite, CPR Rock is a warm, twangy slice of indie rock pie. Featuring members of some of the city’s most exciting bands, Ponybite have struck gold on a sound that’s fresh and captivatingly familiar at the same time.

‘CPR Rock’ kicks off with a yeehaw-lite guitar hook that’s so catchy it hurts. Venus (The Empty Threats, Soursob) and Jesse Davidson share the vocal mic, their combined delivery sweet and deliciously lazy by design. Harmonies are never just an accent or an afterthought, rather their voices gently weave together for the duration of the track.

After two steady minutes, the song crosses a threshold into something entirely different, summoning anthemic energy alongside an unexpected vintage rock ‘n’ roll lick. The pleasantly jarring effect is reminiscent of indie alt- country heroes, Wednesday, while channelling a sound that’s uniquely and inexplicably Australian.
