July 25 - Noteworthy New Releases
By The Note

Our favourite releases of the week.
The Empty heads – ‘Frozen Drinks’
Newcomers The Empty Heads deliver a rousing tirade on the cost of living with crunching single ‘Frozen Drinks’. Exploring the rising cost of inflation by the price change in frozen drinks, the track is three and a half minutes of fizzy punk rock recalling ‘90s acts like Descendents and Rancid.
Sounds like: Old school punk.
Placement – ‘Insect’
Is there anything Placement can’t do? The genre-bending collective never fails to surprise or disappoint. ‘Insect’, the title track from their forthcoming long player, is a shoegaze temptation that morphs into an instrumental melting pot of frenetic guitars, beguiling clarinet and horrifying sax. Experimental bliss.
Sounds like: The end of the world.
Louise Marshall – ‘Piece of Mind’
Pairing alt-rock vibes with dreamy indie pop inflections, ‘Piece of Mind’ signifies a bold new chapter for singer-songwriter Louise Marshall. Deeply personal – the track draws on a real-life incident involving an ugly confrontation Marshall had in a strip club – ‘Piece of Mind’ is the outcome of Alanis Morissette sharing shots with Courtney Love.
Sounds like: Empowering pop.
The Kavs – ‘Venice’
The outcome of a random encounter The Kavs’ guitarist Jake Beinke had while travelling Europe, ‘Venice’ is a humdinger of a track. It’s a breezy rock and roller with all the swagger of a luxury yacht sailing across the Mediterranean. Bonus points for the cool as fuck guitar solo that backends the track.
Sounds like: The ocean.
Never miss a beat
