August 22 - Noteworthy New Releases
By The Note

Our favourite releases of the week.
DIVEBAR YOUTH – ‘living’
Continuing his obsession with indie music from the early 00s, DIVEBAR YOUTH’s ‘living’ is a Strokes-esque jam with distorted vocals, jangly guitars and a dance floor-enticing disco beat. The song and the EP it appears on represent a new chapter for producer, singer, musician and visionary Vinnie Barbaro – one we are keen to hear more of.
Sounds like: Early ‘00s Strokes.
The Kavs – ‘you Don’t Know’
Western suburb rockers The Kavs get reflective on their new single, the second taste of their forthcoming EP. It’s not hard to tell it was written during a breakup with lines like “Was it something I said that you held on?”. This one hits you in the feels thanks to vocalist Oscar Keating’s sincere vocals, with the soaring instrumentation providing a comforting arm around the shoulder.
Sounds like: Your mum telling you it will be alright.
Matt Goodluck – ‘Ancient Astronaut’
Take a trip into the Twilight Zone with this ambient otherworldly track. Inspired by ‘80s German electronic pioneers Tangerine Dream, it incorporates swirling synths, a rhythmic beat, spoken word and electronic blips that come together in a fusion of futuristic soundscapes. This is the type of song you can imagine soundtracking the next sci-fi blockbuster.
Sounds like: The Blade Runner soundtrack.
Badland Caravan – ‘AreYou Formless’
If The Doors had grown up in South Australia on a diet of hard blues and psychedelia, they would have sounded something like Badland Caravan. Stumbling straight out of Woodstock, ‘Are You Formless’ is unabashed in its homage to psych-roc. Morrison-esque vocals, church organs and grandiose guitar solos make up this near four-minute tribute to simpler times.
Sounds like: The Doors.
Never miss a beat
