Our favourite releases of the week.

Choosing Sides – ‘We’re Just in Time / We’re Missing Everything’

This double single from Choosing Sides is bloody awesome. ‘We’re Just in Time’ is straight out of the early ’00s indie playbook, featuring hazy riffs and a frantic crescendo that seamlessly transitions into the joyous, driving ‘We’re Missing Everything’. Adelaide’s best kept secret, but for how much longer?

Newgate Crowd – ‘All (F)or Nothing’

The opening of ‘All (f)or Nothing’ immediately transports you to a sweaty, grimy dive bar – a type of place that has sticky floors and only serves whiskey straight. Newgate Crowd continue to surprise with their take on traditional rock and roll, with this track a powerful, balls-to-the-wall serving of classic guitar rock that even Wolfmother’s Andrew Stockdale would be proud of.

The EMpty Threats – ‘The One’

Exploring the sometimes murky boundaries between platonic and romantic relationships, ‘the one’ continues The Empty Threats’ recent run of brain-buzzing singles. Taken from their forthcoming LP, happy birthday, this one is all jagged riffs, oscillating rhythms and distorted vocals, climaxing in a flurry of noise that will have you headbanging along with a smile.

Soft Star – ‘Rage Quitting’

Local polymath Jesse Davidson returns with his excellent new project, Soft Star. Decamping to LA with producer Sam Plecker (Father John Misty, Vista Kicks), the duo cooked up ‘Rage Quitting’ – a slow burn piano ballad with a country twang encapsulating the struggles of being a musician in the modern world. Welcome back, Jesse.

The Unset - ‘Away’

Emotive rockers The Unset have shared their second single of 2025 in the form of the brooding six-minute ‘Slate’.

Following the previously released ‘Decay/Bloom’, a riff-crunching power rock track, ‘Slate’ is a more melodic dose of alt-guitar goodness channelling A Perfect Circle.

It serves as a great introduction to The Unset and showcases their growth as a band.
