April 03 - Noteworthy New Releases

Our favourite releases of the week.
White Columns – ‘Shaking in the Light’
At nearly 13 minutes long, this brooding, ambient head trip of industrial art rock anchors experimental artist White Columns’ new album Lessen. A chilling instrumental that builds to a terrifying conclusion, ‘Shaking In The Light’ wouldn’t be out of place in a modern slasher flick.
Sounds like: Industrial nightmares.
PRIYANKA LUXX – ‘THE GREATEST’
‘The Greatest’ is the latest taste of Priyanka Luxx’s upcoming debut album, out later this year. Produced by Grammy-nominated Sean Timms, the track is a soothing ballad about the realities of modern love. The song offers a more pop-forward sound as opposed to Luxx’s earlier folk offerings, while retaining her honest and vulnerable approach to songwriting.
Sounds like: Country soul.
Bjéar –‘Foxlove’
Moving to LA has done wonders for singer-songwriter Bjéar. Need proof? Just listen to his single ‘Foxglove’, a soaring alt-folk meditation on love and loss that leans into his understated vocals. If you’re a fan of this one, do yourself a favour and check out the acapella pub version sung by Bjéar’s mates. Heartwarming stuff.
Sounds like: That warm, fuzzy feeling.
MY CHÉRIE – ‘STUCK INSIDE MY HEAD’
Fresh from a stellar set at WOMADelaide, My Chérie shares the Kate Bush-esque ‘Stuck Inside My Head’. Playing every instrument, along with recording and producing the track, My Chérie opens up about having a “busy brain,” over light instrumentation before an ‘80s guitar riff takes the song in an unexpected direction.
Sounds like: All your dreams come true.
Never miss a beat
