This is Jessica Luxx on the lyrics to her new single, ‘The Temple’, which discusses release, empowerment, violation and most importantly, growth. You may be forgiven for thinking Ms Luxx has crafted a powerful political rock’n’roll statement, even a non-conformist punk anthem – but you’d be wrong. Jessica has fashioned an elegant, charming concoction of 1960s Americana and country-flavoured dream pop with a miraculous message to remain fierce and determined. The stirring string compositions over the plucking of a banjo and swirling, sliding guitar add a cinematic value to Jess’ enigmatic vocal gallantry. As she sings “Take no prisoners to the temple”, it’s impossible not to feel empowered. Put this track next to Terah Lynn’s ‘Listen No More’ and The Chicks’ ‘Not Ready To Make Nice’ and you’re ready to rise above anything.
