Blush is a band known for their loud live performances and guitar-heavy, shoegaze-inspired layers of noise. However, the waltzy, minimalist ‘Doomsday’ knows how to hold back and does so to stunning effect.

‘Doomsday’ is the sophomore release from the guitar- driven indie pop quartet and unpacks the aftermath of a breakup – from paranoia and yearning to growth and acceptance. Annita Vucic’s soft vocals coast dreamily along on the thoughtful instrumentation, capturing the tenderness of a broken heart. Local folk-pop artist Lucinda Grace (at whose Adelaide Hills studio the track was recorded) makes a guest appearance, lending a string section that swells impactfully as the energy of the song rises and falls.

The track shines as it collapses in on itself, drenched in reverb – an emotional crescendo that’s more typical of the lush, layered live sound Blush uses to captivate audiences. And count on it: the haunting outro will stick with you long after the final whirring echo.
