Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds have shared the gorgeous new single ‘Long Dark Night’, the latest teaser from their soon-to-be-released 18th album, Wild God.
Following the previously released ‘Wild God’ and ‘Frogs’, third single ‘Long Dark Night’ is influenced by St. John of the Cross’ 16th-century poem, Dark Night of the Soul.
“‘Long Dark Night’ is inspired by one of the greatest and most powerful poems of conversion ever written,” Cave explained in a statement. “Ultimately, though, it’s a beautiful country tune. It feels like a sweet companion to the song, ‘Wild God’.”
You can listen to ‘Long Dark Night’ below.
Wild God is set for release on Friday, August 30 and follows 2019’s heartbreaking Ghosteen. The ten-track album has been described by Cave in a press release as “a complicated record, but it’s also deeply and joyously infectious.”
Cave adds: “There is never a masterplan when we make a record. The records rather reflect back the emotional state of the writers and musicians who played them. Listening to this, I don’t know, it seems we’re happy. There’s no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it.”
Wild God is set for release August 30 via Bad Seed Ltd./Play It Again Sam. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here and check out the album artwork and tracklist below.
