Multi-Platinum and Gold ARIA-certified outfit Kingswood are back with their new album Midnight Mavericks.
Inspired by their love of vintage rock and country, the record has been described as “Tom Petty meets Alan Jackson and Johnny Cash shares a whiskey with Lynyrd Skynyrd.”
Produced by Alexander Laska, who also co-wrote all the tracks on the album, Midnight Mavericks explores love, loyalty, ambition and escape across 10 fulfilling tracks.
The band describes Midnight Mavericks as “an album written after the lights go out. You’re forced to reckon with who you are when no one’s watching. There’s grit here. There’s tenderness. It’s country and rock — worn in, not dressed up — built on melody, muscle, and stories, blending lived-in boots and hopeful dreamers.”
To coincide with the release, Kingswood have dropped a new single, ‘The Action’. Vocalist Fergus Linacre describes the track as “a dance floor belter that revels in the freedom of sinless attraction and fearless endeavour, as one feels when you finally swim out past the crashing waves of heartbreak, and you’re ready to stand up on your board and surf again.”
The lads are halfway through their Aussie tour promoting Midnight Mavericks, with the band telling The Note in a recent interview that they’ve been playing almost all of the album tracks at each show.
After killing it in Adelaide last weekend, Kingswood hit Melbourne’s The Corner Hotel tonight, Friday 22 May, before ending the month with shows at Port Douglas’ Savannah Sounds Festival on Saturday 23 May, Brisbane’s Lefty’s Music Hall on Thursday 28 May, Sydney’s The Factory Theatre on Friday 29 May and Hunter Valley’s Full Throttle Ranch on Saturday 30 May.
Kingswood wraps things up with two final gigs in June at Cairns’ Tanks Art Centre on Friday 19 June and Cooktown’s Discovery Festival on Saturday 20 June. Tickets on sale at kingswoodband.com.
Kingswood have been at the centre of Australia’s rock scene for close to two decades. In that time, they’ve garnered more than 80 million global streams, released seven studio albums and toured regularly, playing both cities and regional areas. Midnight Mavericks ushers in the next step in the group’s evolution.
