Julia Jacklin is back with another new track, ‘I Wish’, taken from the Aussie artist’s upcoming fourth studio album, The Gem, out Friday 25 September via her new label, 4AD.
A duet with The Maes’ Elsie and Maggie Rigby, ‘I Wish’, closes Jacklin’s new 10-track album and is a delicate, acoustic number with goosebump inducing hamronies.
As for Jacklin’s new record, The Gem was named after the famous Collingwood pub and live music venue. Produced by Jacklin and Robert Muinos (Camp Cope, Didirri, Little May) at Rat Shack studios above the pub, the record features guitarist Jacob Diamond, bassist Mimi Gilbert and drummer Jess Elwood.
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to be free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Jacklin says.
“The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something.”
During the final day of recording, Jacklin and the band got matching tattoos of an opal, Jacklin’s favourite gemstone.
“It did really feel like we’d done something special together. And I think as a group, it felt important to commemorate it. I’m glad we all have these little gems on us,” she added.

Jacklin’s The Gem follows 2022’s critically acclaimed Pre Pleasure, which debuted at #2 on the ARIA Albums Chart and took home the ARIA for Best Adult Contemporary Album.
The last few years have seen Jacklin share several one-off singles, including ‘Shivers’ (2023) and the Faye Webster duet ‘Good Guy’ (2024), while also reforming her band Phantastic Ferniture and touring nationally.
Once The Gem drops in September, Jacklin hits the road for a run of shows across North America before heading to Europe in early 2027.
