Fanny Lumsden Unveils Title Track From Forthcoming Album 'Traditions'

The singer-songwriter is touring her new album from October 2026 to January 2027.

'Traditions' is the title track from singer-songwriter Fanny Lumsden's upcoming fifth studio album, set for release on Friday 30 October.

The track is an earnest country rocker about Lumsden being torn between chasing the life of a musician and her farming heritage.

On the single, Fanny explains, "This track is at the heart of this record and I really wanted to create something that captured the chaos and the constant push and pull of autonomy, ambition and my farming family traditions. Each one I feel equally about and I feel like I’m always just tipping one way or the other."

The track is accompanied by a music video shot at Lumsden's family sheep and cropping farm in the Riverina, NSW, directed by multi-award-winning writer, director and actor TJ Power (Eat Pray Love, Offspring, The Little Death) and produced by Fanny and her husband Dan,

Following previous tracks 'Mother's Eyes' and 'Difficult Woman', 'Traditions' is at the heart of Lumsden's forthcoming record

Produced by Steven Schram (Crowded House, The Cat Empire, Paul Kelly), Traditions was recorded live in the studio over nine days alongside Lumsden's band, The Daddies (AKA the Prawn Stars).

Regarding the intensely personal theme of the album, Fanny expressed, "As I've got older, I've begun to realise the value and meaning that can come from traditions; however what I'm still learning is how to balance the ideas of who I am with those traditions and that they are all allowed to change as we go.

"I loved that Traditions brings up so much discussion for people. Traditions and families are messy. I can value the traditions of my family whilst also understanding that they were borne of a flawed system. There is more to traditions than being steadfast, I think I'm discovering the movement and change they need to survive.

"I am here now, trying to marry my autonomy and ambitions with my farming family's traditions. Perhaps belonging is to be found when traditions are alive, in traditions that grow - and maybe some need to be just left behind to move forward."

A volunteer firefighter and farmer on her family's patch of land, Lumsden is also a two-time ARIA Award, 10-time CMAA Golden Guitar Award and three-time AIR Award winner.

Fresh from a run of shows across the UK, followed by her Australian Only Fans: Story Club Tour, Lumsden is looking forward to sharing her new album with fans next month.

She's also locked in an 11-date East Coast tour that begins with an album launch show on Saturday 31 October at the Riverina town of Tooma. More details can be found at fannylumsden.net.
