Granite Island Discs: Sharni Honor

Porch Records and Summertown Studio owner who’s a big fan of Miles Davis.
What five songs would you take to a desert island?
1. King Krule – ‘Baby Blue’
2. Gil Scott Heron Reimagined by Makaya McCraven – ‘I’m New Here’
3. Alabaster DePlume – ‘Whisky Story Time’
4. Fela Kuti – ‘Water Got No Enemy’
5. Tribe Called Quest – ‘Oh My God’
If you could only pick one, what would it be?
At the moment, it’s AlabasterDe Plume – ‘Whisky Story Time’. It’s incredible to truly feel transported by instrumental music. There’s something so vulnerable about this recording, so raw, so real – no matter where I am or what I’m doing, I feel it in my bones.
What’s your favourite album?
Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. This is the music I listen to when I’m not actively listening to music. If that makes sense. I think when working in music you always listen with a certain lens, a certain framework and sometimes an analytical mindset. This is the album I listen to when I knock off. I would listen to it four or five times a week. It’s timeless.
What’s your favourite song by an SA artist/band?
‘Slippin’ by Nu Article. They are the ones.
Favourite music-related memory?
The first ever Porch Session we ran at my folks’ house, back in 2013. That was the moment I knew I wanted to be around music for the rest of my life.
