Granite Island Discs: Driller Armstrong

Adelaide’s favourite DJ has met everyone from Nile Rodgers to Leo Sayer.
What five songs would you take to a desert island?
1. George Clinton – ‘Atomic Dog’
2. The Stooges – ‘I Wanna Be Your Dog’
3. LaTour – ‘People Are Still Having Sex’
4. The Stray Cats – ‘Stray Cat Strut’
5. Divine – ‘You Think You’re a Man’
If you could only pick one, what would it be?
I’d go with ‘Stray Cat Strut’ – because I like to strut by with my tail in the air.
What’s your favourite album?
Brian Eno’s Music For Airports. It’s such an ambient album – full of tones, really relaxing.
What’s your favourite song by an SA artist/band?
‘The Lord’s Prayer’ by sister Janet Mead from the album With You I Am. I tell you, we’re the ‘City of Churches Turned Into Discotheques’. Though now I think about it, they’re all slowly turning back into churches...
Favourite music-related memory?
So many musical memories. Meeting Nile Rodgers and Leo Sayer while supporting them in a concert in the Botanic Park was a highlight. My Dad was thrilled that I did that. He was so proud – finally! Also, partying at Sugar with Errol Brown from Hot Chocolate was definitely up there.
Never miss a beat
