New Production of ‘Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette’ Hits Adelaide This Month

The world’s most iconic love story comes to life in State Opera South Australia’s brand-new production of Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette.

State Opera South Australia, Irish National Opera and West Australian Opera are excited to present Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, a new Adelaide production of the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet.

The breathtaking production of William Shakespeare’s classic play features an incredible international cast, including Berlin-based Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg and powerful tenor Kyle Stegall as the legendary lovers, alongside acclaimed baritone Morgan Pearse , who takes on the role of the charismatic Mercutio.

The cast also features Pelham Andrews as Frére Laurent, Eugene Raggio as Capulet, Charlotte Kelso as Stéphano, Catriona Barr as Gertrude and several more talented performers.

Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette is split into five acts and directed by Rodula Gaitanou with conductor Dane Lam. Olivier Award-nominated designer takis will help bring the play to life alongside lighting designer Bernie Tan-Hayes.

There will be just four performances of Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette at Her Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday 23 October, Saturday 25 October, Thursday 30 October and Saturday 1 November.

This new production is the first time Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette has been performed in South Australia for 25 years, making it one ticket you don’t want to miss out on.
