By The Note

An unforgettable, heartwarming journey of self-discovery that has captivated audiences worldwide.
Singer and actress Natalia Bassingthwaighte returns to the Australian stage in Willy Russell’s one-woman play, Shirley Valentine.
Directed by Lee Lewis, this life-affirming comedy arrives at Her Mahesty’s Theatre for a limited eight-performance run this April after wowing Melbourne audiences.
Shirley Valentine follows the life of the titular character – a bored, middle-aged Liverpool housewife who aches for adventure and wishes to escape her dull everyday life. When asked to accompany a friend on her trip to Greece, Shirley jumps at the chance and finds her life tipped on its head.
Bassingthwaighte, best known for her performances in the television series Neighbours, Underbelly and X-Factor, and for fronting musical group Rogue Traders, has been applauded by critics for her performance, bringing depth, humour and warmth to the character.
The Age called Shirley Valentine “an impressive and endearing performance that had the audience on its feet”, while thescoop.au said, “Bassingthwaighte truly captivated with her superb portrayal. A phenomenal one-woman performance.”
Shirley Valentine runs from April 1-6 at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketek.
