Celeste Barber Announces 2024 Australian Tour

Her new show ‘Backup Dancer’ promises to be an evening of hilarity.

Comedian Celeste Barber has announced she’s heading out on the road this October and September.

The ‘Backup Dancer’ tour will see Barber perform a new routine tackling everything from politics and freeing the nipple, to what life would be like as a Taylor Swift backup dancer.

“I’m excited to tell some jokes, relive some awkward memories and high kick my way across the stage with my new show Backup Dancer,” Barber said in a statement.

Barber’s tour takes in 13 dates across the country, kicking off in Brisbane at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on Thursday, August 8. The show then hits the Gold Coast, Tweed Heads, Sydney for two shows, Newcastle, Canberra and Geelong. The remaining five shows included two performances in Melbourne, two in Perth and one in Adelaide.

Australia’s queen of comedy has come a long way since getting her start at an open mic competition in 2015. Although beginning life as an actor, appearing as paramedic Bree Matthews in All Saints, it wasn’t until she switched to comedy that Barber became a hit with audiences.

After reaching the Raw Comedy final of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Barber took her show on the road and sold out gigs at the Sydney Comedy and Adelaide Fringe festivals. This coincided with her going viral when Barber uploaded photos and videos to Instagram of her recreating celebrity images to show the absurdity of social media and how fake it is, leading to a partnership with fashion designer Tom Ford.

Barber has gone on to travel the globe as a stand-up, selling out shows across the world while also releasing several comedy specials, including 2023s Fine, Thanks for Netflix. Barber has also starred in her own TV show, Wellmania, written several books and started the podcast, Celeste & Her Best.
