Australian Dance Theatre Announces CULTIVATE:ONE

Join ADT and friends at The Odeon in Norwood to celebrate the latest wave of contemporary dance during the exclusive season of Cultivate: One. Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) is set to showcase three new Australian works by company artists Brianna Kell, Sebastian Geilings, and Zachary Lopez from November 17 to November 25.

Cultivate: One provides a platform for both established and emerging artists to develop and present their works for audiences on Kaurna Yerta. ADT Artistic Director Daniel Riley expresses excitement about the unique offerings from Brianna, Sebastian, and Zachary, stating that audiences will witness fresh perspectives and physicalities not seen before in Adelaide.

During the Friday and Saturday performances, The Odeon will transform into a lively hub with DJs, sandwhiches by RODEO, and a pop-up bar by Miss Zilm. Additionally, Wulli Wulli artist and Koa artist Shane Cook will create a giant mural in the theater's foyer.

The event's highlight will be the premieres of the works by ADT artists, accompanied by music from duck! radio DJs and drinks from Little Bang, Pundi Bitters, and The Usual Suspects group, promising a celebratory atmosphere for the final Adelaide season of 2023.

Brianna Kell's NOW / AGAIN explores the intricate relationship between time and human connection, employing sensitive durational elements that demand patience and focus from the audience. Zachary Lopez's Down Trodden Punk utilizes abstractionism and dance theatre to examine language as a tool of oppression, drawing parallels between historical practices in Australia and the Philippines. Sebastian Geilings' How Much Of You Is Repetition? delves into the quirky and nonsensical facets of 'dysregulation,' offering a surreal exploration of the human psyche's response to trauma.

The festivities will continue with an afterparty at Loc Bottle Bar on Hindmarsh Square following the final show on November 25 at 10 pm.

For those eager to experience this vibrant celebration, the Cultivate: One program includes performances on November 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25 at various times. Australian Dance Theatre, in its 58th year, continues to be a trailblazer in contemporary dance, reflecting Australia's creativity, innovation, and vibrancy under the artistic direction of Daniel Riley.
