Local dance studio Star Academy has launched their own YouTube channel, Star Girlz.
The online children’s entertainment show aims to encourage resilience and self-worth in South Australia’s youth through a series of episodes arriving on the platform throughout the year.
Star Girlz features four vibrant characters – Sunny (played by Zoe Burns, who starred in the Netflix show Gymnastics Academy – A Second Chance), Luna, Skye, and Aries – who arrive on Earth from outer space. All four possess unique strengths and passions and are joined in each episode by Earthlings keen to teach them about health and wellbeing.
The series focuses on different aspects of wellbeing, including mindfulness, gratitude, exercise and healthy eating. The episodes feature fun and adventurous stories underpinned by a message of empowerment. The aim is to teach kids how to gain confidence and be their unapologetic selves without feeling the pressure to be someone they’re not just to fit in.
As well as helping young children find their voice, Star Girlz is designed to inspire parents to get involved with their kids and play their part in raising them to be positive members of society.
Star Academy Managing Director Jenna Boffa-Maiolo says the power of positive role models cannot be underestimated.
“Creating a strong sense of self is crucial from a young age, and there needs to be positive influence in every child’s life,” says Jenna. “Star Girlz has powerful messages of wellbeing that help to support families in their journey of raising happy, healthy children.”
Star Girlz is a production from Adelaide’s own Star Academy and is available to watch on YouTube.
ACTC Artistic Director and Co-Owner, Brooke Brown, claims Mother Nature is like nothing seen before across the Australian sport. “Calisthenics is normally a sport based on rigid competition, and we’re breaking through that by highlighting its theatrical side in an arena setting. Mother Nature is about showcasing the strength and power of this predominantly female sport.
“Creating an opportunity where any calisthenics dancer across Australia can participate is our way to bring calisthenics out to the wider community. It also presents an opportunity for the elite in the sport, after their extensive years of training in all facets of dance, to do what they love on a commercial stage in front of a much bigger audience, without the pressure of a competition.”
Brown, along with ACTC Co-Owner, Carly Aherne, are doing their bit to put the spotlight on calisthenics with Mother Nature. The duo are passionate about spreading awareness of calisthenics to those outside the sport’s immediate community and are dedicated to training and developing their SA cast members.
Both Brown and Aherne have extensive experience as calisthenics athletes, with Brown’s career in the sport spanning more than 35 years, and Aherne proud to have represented SA in both state and national teams six times during her career.
Mother Nature marks ACTC’s second production and will be held at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Friday, July 4. Tickets range from $49 to $189 and are on sale now via premier.ticketek.com.au.
