The 2025 Russell Hobbs British Film Festival returns to Palace Nova Cinemas in November with an eclectic program headlined by Anemone, Daniel Day-Lewis’ first film in eight years.
Running from Wednesday 5 November to Sunday 7 December at Palace Nova Eastend Cinemas and Palace Nova Prospect Cinemas, the festival will showcase the very best of British cinema, including exquisite dramas, fascinating documentaries, much-loved retrospectives, comedies and more.
Before the full program is unveiled in mid-October, organisers have shared five highlights from the festival, including the centrepiece drama Anemone. The film, written by Daniel Day-Lewis and his son Ronan, explores the bonds that exist between brothers, fathers and sons. The film stars Day-Lewis in his first film in eight years, alongside Sean Bean and Samantha Morton.
The program also includes the suspense thriller The Dead of Winter, starring Emma Thompson as a woman travelling alone through snowbound northern Minnesota who interrupts the kidnapping of a teenage girl, and the Kate Moss biopic Moss & Frud, a film about the relationship between Moss and acclaimed British artist Lucian Freud.
Two more films have been unveiled: John Cleese Packs It In, a behind-the-scenes look at comedy legend John Cleese’s final European tour, and scenic drama The North, focusing on two friends who embark on a 600-kilometre journey through the Scottish Highlands as they reconnect with nature and each other.
