Indie-pop meets alt-rock musician

@RUBYBOLAND

What was the first physical album you ever bought?

The Secret life of the Veronicas was the first album I bought. I would’ve been maybe 9 and I was completely obsessed with them. It probably led me into my rock interests as a teen, but their cover of ‘Mother Mother’ was awesome.

Who are your 5 favourite Australian artists right now?

Some amazing up and coming Aussie artists are:

1.        Ecca Vandal, I love how she performs live, she’s so kick-ass. Check out ‘CRUISING TO SELF SOOTHE’.

2.        Ninajirachi – an amazing artist and producer, I can’t wait to see her live.

3.        Lucky – I’m really excited to watch her grow as an artist, I think her sound is cool.

4.        Balu Brigada’s debut album has such a strong identity right out the gate, I think they’re going to be a big band.

5.        Yumi Zouma - they’re from New Zealand but I love all of the tones they’ve been leaning into on their recent album.

What is your favourite music related memory?

The first thing that comes to mind was when I was on the Flume tour in 2022. I would get to watch ‘Never Be Like You’ every night, I probably saw it 50 times. It never got old, it made me feel amazing every single time, and it was awesome to be in the crowd, watching all of these different moments happen to the same song. It just really really connects to a specific feeling for everyone, all around the world.

What is your favourite song of your recent album and why?

I love ‘Last Man On Earth’. I love that I got to get a little experimental with it and add a whole separate section to the end of the song. I can’t wait to play it live and hear the audience scream that end part.

If you could go back in time to say one thing to your teenage self, what would it be?

Oh god. Just learn to have fun with it, art doesn’t have to be torturous, or perfect. Let yourself live and let the art come from you living, and then you’ll be able to do it forever, because it’s naturally apart of you – not something you have to squeeze out.
